Organization of medical equipment supply-for the Russian Army during the First World War. The article shows that when preparing the army for the war and planning of emergency supplies for military time the Russian military department was guided by the experience gained during the Russo-Japanese War, which turned old by that time, and as a result during the First World War the medical service noticed a significant lack of medications,surgical instruments and other medical equipment. There were few bases of medical equipment in the troop district. The undertaken emergency measures allowed improving supply of medical institutions and troops with medical equipment.

Three generations of Smith doctors were its nucleus, subsidizing the annual losses of the hospital and providing care to all, regardless of ability to pay. The hospital was a community unto itself for the nurses who lived, trained, and worked there. A unique family in the history of medicine in Arkansas, the Smith physicians were well trained, altruistic, compassionate, and conscientious, exemplifying the traditional values of twentieth century medical practice.

[The experience in orginizing medical supply of the Belorussian operation 1944 "Bagration"].

A research of some literary sources and archive materials relating to the Belorussian strategic offensive operation "Bagration" in 1944 in which the group of armies "Center" was defeated has been conducted. The article provides a notion of a character and work volume of operational higher formations medical service control bodies in the process of preparation for the medical provision and treatment and evacuation measures implementation by the all-medical service levels in the course of operation. Shortcomings were revealed both in the medical provision planning and predesigned measures implementation that could be of certain interest for military doctors.

El presente trabajo aborda el estudio de la nómina de médicos del Hospital Real de la ciudad de Granada en el siglo XVI y singularmente los procesos de selección que precedieron a sus respectivos y sucesivos nombramientos. Pretende ilustrar acerca de la determinación mostrada por dicha clase de profesionales para hacerse con ese oficio asistencial e igualmente sobre las exigencias académicas y socioculturales que afrontaron en contrapartida. Éstas remitieron a la posesión de un grado universitario y a la acreditación de una reputada experiencia quirúrgica, y, en menor medida, a la limpieza de sangre y a la posesión del título de médico del Tribunal local del Santo Oficio (AU)

This study investigates the staffing by physicians of the Hospital Real in the city of Granada in the 16th century, focussing on the selection processes that preceded their respective and successive appointments. The aim is to illustrate the determination shown by this class of professionals to claim this healthcare space and the academic and socio-cultural requirements that they had to meet in return. These included the possession of a university degree and the accreditation of reputable surgical experience and, to a lesser degree, «limpieza de sangre» (proof of Spanish Christian ancestry) and the title of physician awarded by the local court of the Inquisition (AU)

Field expediency: how army nurses in Vietnam "made do". An ability to improvise is a valuable nursing skill, on and off the battlefield.

In the early years of the Vietnam War, when resources were in short supply, nurses improvised in the field to provide care to the sick and wounded under extremely adverse conditions. This "field expediency" was the result of nursing knowledge as well as flexibility, creativity, audacity, and pragmatism. Nurses in other settings--for example, those practicing in remote areas, in developing nations, or during natural disasters--may also find themselves facing severe shortages or too few essential supplies or a lack of equipment. Familiarity with the methods associated with field expediency will help nurses adapt quickly--on the battlefield and off.
